Abigail Wookey

Position/Role

Abbie is a PhD student investigating and developing methods for intertidal seagrass restoration within Western Port, with a specific focus on seed germination. She aims to build on existing restoration efforts being undertaken, using a multidisciplinary approach that combines mesocosm experiments and nursery experiments to optimise seed viability, germination success, and seagrass growth. Her research will also run in close alignment with Lucy, Elizabeth and Laney (PhD candidates of the Ecogenetics Lab). Long term, Abbie’s goal is to develop an understanding of how successful practices can be upscaled sustainably and in turn, support in situ restoration. Abbie is also a leading representative of the Global Seagrass Nursery Network which aims to create international links between seagrass nurseries and collaborators.
